scripture verses which offer comfort & hope during times of grief

I have to be honest with you. Shortly after my father passed away, I had a difficult time opening up the bible and reading scripture verses that focused on healing, restoration, or God's goodness. My knee-jerk reaction was in response to the reality that my father wasn't with us any longer. After going to God in prayer and eliciting the prayers of so many for my father's physical healing, I found it difficult to pray or read the Bible after burying my father in the grave. I felt let down and disappointed, even betrayed by a God I had so trusted. My vision was obfuscated or blurred by the situation, but I also knew (even at that time) that I was only seeing part of the picture. In spite of the anger, the pain, and daily struggle of moving forward, I knew I would one day read scripture, hopefully, with a more accurate understanding of God's heart.

No person was ever honored for what he received. Honor has been the reward for what he gave. - Calvin Coolidge, American President

Depending on what stage you're at in your grief, it may not be easy to read these now. But remember: God knows your situation. He understands you completely and his patience will never run out. My hope is that at some point, there may be a verse on this page which will speak deeply into your life. If you feel someone may benefit from this list of verses, please forward this on to them.
